Herb, Lovage
This is a wonderful perennial plant to have in any garden. We usually propagate Lovage with a chunk of root like one would do with Rhubarb, but it can also be grown well from seed, which is handy when a root is not available. The leaves are often used in soups, stews, and stirfrys, and taste very similar to celery. However, even if we hated the taste (which we don’t—we use this all the time) we would grow Lovage because it is a huge attractor of beneficial insects when it flowers. Grow this plant where it can reach its full size, about 2 feet across and 6-8’ tall. Ideally, it will be located close to the kitchen and be in a fertile, well watered spot. Start the seeds inside in early spring and transplant outside in a permanent spot after 2-4 weeks. Keep well watered and weeded until established. approx. 20 seeds/packet
